Henri Gaudier-Brzeska
Bird Swallowing a Fish (c.1913–14, cast 1964)
Tate

This may look like an abstract sculpture but if you look closely you can see the shapes of the bird and the fish. The artist, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, often made art about animals. He has used lots of straight lines and square shapes to make the sculpture. This is because, as well as liking animals, he was also fascinated by the machinery of modern life. The abstracted bird and torpedo-like fish are also sometimes seen as symbols of the First World War that began in 1914.
