Join us for the opening weekend of Richard Bell’s Embassy

Housed in a tent surrounded by protest signs, Embassy is a space for activism and dialogue in support of Aboriginal land rights in Australia.

Embassy is activated through a series of public events with Richard Bell in conversation with guest speakers and audience participants. The opening day will include contributions from Ghillar Michael Anderson, Megan Cope, Alan Michelson and Sylvia McAdam. Together they explore questions of social justice, land rights, sovereignty, and coalition building through a powerful critique of the legacy of European invasion and colonialism. Visitors are encouraged to take part in these conversations, sharing their stories and experiences. All conversations are documented, forming part of an archive that transcends national boundaries.

12.30–13.30

Richard Bell discusses the history of the Aboriginal Land Rights Movement with Euahlayi Elder and activist Ghillar Michael Anderson, one of the protestors who established the original tent Embassy.

13.30–14.30

Join us for a free community lunch provided by Papi’s Pickles which is a social enterprise led by South Asian and Sri Lankan women. Founded in 2015, the food is made by women from these communities who relocated to the UK due to the conflict in Sri Lanka.

14.30–15.15

This conversation explores the power of art and collective practice with Quandamooka artist Megan Cope in conversation with Richard Bell. Both artists are members of the Aboriginal art collective proppaNOW based in Brisbane.

15.15–16.30

This discussion looks at Indigenous legal-political sovereignty with Alan Michelson, artist, curator, writer, lecturer and Mohawk member of the Six Nations of the Grand River, as well as Sylvia McAdam (Saysewahum), member of the Cree Nation, advocate for First Nation and environmental rights in Canada and co-founder of a global grassroots Indigenous-led movement ‘Idle No More’.

The event will be filmed and livestreamed.
