Hera Büyüktaşcıyan’s installation investigates the landscape of Cornwall and parallels between presence and disappearance
In her multidisciplinary practice, Hera Büyüktaşcıyan explores and is inspired by the ways memory, identity and spaces are shaped by deeply ingrained yet constantly evolving histories.
Her new work Earthbound Whisperers was developed during an artist residency with Tate St Ives, where she became fascinated with the megalithic stone monuments of Cornwall and, in particular, the legends of the Boskednan stone circle near St Ives.
The installation has been created using textiles and graphite, materials deeply connected to these stories of Cornwall.
A version of this installation is also being shown at the 14th Gwangju Biennale, South Korea (April-June 2023).
Hera Büyüktaşcıyan born 1984 in Istanbul, Turkey, lives and works in Istanbul. The exhibition Earthbound Whisperers is curated by Anne Barlow, Director, with Giles Jackson, Assistant Curator, Tate St Ives. Commissioned by Tate St Ives and the 14th Gwangju Biennale.
