Martha Rosler, O’Hare (Chicago)  1994, printed 2019

Rosler chose the sentences and phrases that sit on the wall alongside the photographs. They draw attention to the ways in which airport advertising, signage and architecture promise to take the visitor to somewhere else, mentally and physically. The less comforting messages come from the architecture and the air travel system itself. The lower row of phrases refers to the evolution of ways space is divided up, and people move through it.
