New Contemporaries 96, the most important annual exhibition of student and recent graduate work in Britain, is relaunched at Tate Gallery Liverpool.

From David Hockney to Damien Hirst, New Contemporaries has boosted the careers of many well-known artists.

The 1996 selectors, artist Mark Wallinger, curator Maria de Corral and editor of The Burlington Magazine, Richard Shone selected young artists from over 1500 submissions.

New Contemporaries offers an invaluable insight into the current practice of young artists working in Britain today.
